RLSS UK announces new location for second Open Water Festival 2022

After the success of the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s (RLSS UK) Open Water Festival in Evesham, Worcestershire, the charity has announced a second festival which is set to take place at Manvers Lake, Rotherham.

With the dates confirmed for Sunday 18th September, the festival will see five swim opportunities taking place throughout the day including a 1,600 metre swim, 800 metre swim and a 400 metre swim for those aged 14 and over, a 200 metre swim for those 10 and over, and a Rookie Splash for those aged under 10.

Those who register will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a dryrobe® Advance, with thanks to the events main sponsor dryrobe® and the cost to take part ranges from £10-30 and entry is free for spectators.

Those participating in the swims will all receive a medal and 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will all receive a prize.

Lee Heard, Charity Director at RLSS UK said: “Our Open Water Festival in June was so well attended, with everyone having a such a fantastic time that we are delighted to announce a second festival for 2022, this time in the north of the country.

“We are proud that our Open Water Festivals cater for a variety of ages and swimmers. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced open water swimmer, everyone is guaranteed a warm welcome in a safe environment.”

As well as taking part in any of the swims, you will also be entertained with many stands and fun activities to choose from as well as the chance to win great prizes!

There will also be the amazing Manvers Lake-Bears at the event, a group of like-minded Newfoundland dog owners who enjoy training their Newfoundland dogs in elements of water rescue. The dogs are trained to take out lifesaving equipment to those in difficulty and use whatever means available to them to bring that person in safely.

Open water swimming has increased in popularity over recent years, especially as the weather hots up during the summer and events such as RLSS UK’s Open Water Festival allows swimmers to enjoy getting out into the water but in a fun and safe environment.

There are a number of ways you can prepare for your open water swim and RLSS UK’s Sponge to Plunge is a perfect programme to help you adjust to the cold temperatures.

Sunday 18th September 2022, Manvers Waterfront Boat Club, Rotherham, S63 7EH.
