Plot your course to the CA stand to trial the upgraded CAptain’s Mate app

The Cruising Association is delighted to be back exhibiting at the Southampton International Boat Show from September 10, promoting its increasing and unrivalled range of support services to the expanding sail and motor cruising community.

The talking point for visitors to the stand will undoubtedly be the latest version of the organisation’s exclusive-to-members app, CAptain’s Mate, which is being previewed on the CA stand throughout the show.

First introduced in 2012, this is the app’s first major upgrade and the full roll-out is scheduled for December. A highly committed team of CA volunteers, including 44 editors, has contributed over a year of their time and expertise to plan, re-vamp and thoroughly update the app.

Demos on the CA stand throughout the Show

Anyone interested in sail cruising or motor cruising is invited to come along to the CA stand and see for themselves just how user-friendly it is to navigate to the information you want, and to add reports and photos. The geographical coverage is already vast with some 6,400 global locations available – from Greenland to the Galapagos – and there’s also excellent coverage of the huge network of European inland waterways. Also, CAptain’s Mate will continue to develop and expand as more members use it and contribute reports and, new for 2021, their photos.

Streamlined access

A huge step forward in this major upgrade is the fast and easy search and source capability, supported by good quality member photos of locations. The user now has easy access to some 20,000 location reports including accurate overviews of the ports, in addition to members’ own reports. There’s no need to trawl through 000’s of entries to find the standard location information.

Come and have a play with the demo, see how easy it is to search and filter the listings for specific location facilities. Tap into a specific location’s services and resources, such as where to find the fuel dock, the local supermarkets and restaurants, the laundries, and the loos!

The CA is also promoting a full line-up of activities including news of the next Autumn/Winter Big Prize Draw, announcing the winner of this Summer’s Prize Draw and some fantastic daily Prize Draws just for members. The CA is also inviting every stand visitor to enter the Show prize draw to win a set of Gill OS2 coastal/offshore kit with the winner’s name being drawn on the last day of SIBS.

The CA is acknowledged as the leading organisation for cruising sailors and motor cruisers with 6,300+ members around the world. Founded in 1908 specifically to meet the needs of cruising sailors, the CA has become a haven for many great names in sailing and is dedicated to those who enjoy cruising on sailing and motorboats. Well-known names associated with the CA include HRH The Princess Royal and the CA’s Patron, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. Supporters also include Keith Musto, Tom Cunliffe, Jeanne Socrates and Don Street, amongst others.
