Ever dreamt of racing a 72ft ocean yacht?

All at Sea readers are invited to step onboard for an adrenaline-fuelled weekend in the Solent from 4–6 December 2026, as Tall Ships Youth Trust hosts its upcoming Solent Race Weekend.

Designed for both young people and adults (14-65), this high-energy voyage offers a rare opportunity to learn the ropes and race head-to-head aboard two iconic 72ft Challenger ocean racing yachts – with no prior racing experience required.

Whether you are looking to build on dinghy or small yacht skills or take to the water for your very first race training experience, the weekend delivers hands-on instruction in steering, sail trimming, and racing manoeuvres under the guidance of a professional crew.

Voyage Highlights:

  • Race a 72ft Challenger: Take the helm and experience the power of an ocean-going racing yacht.
  • Head-to-head competition: Match-race against a sister Challenger yacht across the Solent.
  • Hands-on skills: Master core sailing drills, from tacking and gybing to active sail trimming.
  • Accessible to all levels: A natural step-up from dinghies or cruisers, open to absolute beginners aged 12 to 65.

Sailing with Purpose

Tall Ships Youth Trust is committed to ensuring cost is never a barrier to young people getting out on the water. Financial support (bursaries) is available for participants aged 14-25.

Furthermore, full-paying adult berths directly support the charity’s youth development work, enabling more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to experience the life-changing thrill of ocean sailing.
