The spirit of Bavaria returned to Ibiza this weekend as Marina Ibiza teamed up with Michl Marine for the 38th edition of its Oktoberfest. Over three days, the marina brought a taste of Germany to Ibiza, drawing crowds keen to enjoy one of the country’s most popular traditions without leaving the island. Now a firm fixture on Ibiza’s autumn calendar, Oktoberfest has carved out a place of its own in the season.
The Friday and Saturday nights brought the party to life, with Friday drawing particularly lively crowds. Music played a key role in this, with the DJ mixing traditional German tunes with ’90s hits and today’s chart favourites. The eclectic soundtrack had everyone on their feet, dancing and joining in throughout the night. On Sunday, the focus shifted to families, who enjoyed a different kind of day out at the marina.
One of the main draws was once again the games area, where there was a constant stream of visitors. New activities this year included ring a duck, alongside darts, tin-can alley and the ever-popular Hau den Lukas, the traditional German strongman game. Determined attempts, infectious laughter and friendly rivalry made the games area one of the busiest spots at the event.
And, of course, food also kept its date with tradition. German sausages, chicken, roast pork knuckle, pretzels and sauerkraut brought the authentic flavours of Munich’s Oktoberfest to the marina.
Together with the Bavarian-themed setting and music, the whole culinary concept brought a taste of this centuries-old tradition to Ibiza.
On a broader scale, Marina Ibiza’s Oktoberfest has become a firm fixture on the social calendar as the yachting season draws to a close. Its ability to bring together local residents, families and the wider marina community in an easy-going atmosphere is a defining feature of an event that continues to draw in crowds year after year.
This edition attracted around 1,200 attendees and was supported by seventeen corporate sponsors, up on the previous year. This reflects the ever-growing business support for an event that transcends the yachting world and plays an increasingly important role in the island’s social scene.
With this latest edition, Marina Ibiza and Michl Marine have kept alive a celebration that blends authentic Bavarian traditions with Ibiza’s laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle. An event that proves you don’t have to travel all the way to Munich to soak up the Oktoberfest spirit.
