East coast marina invests in new environmental wash centre

On the shores of the River Crouch in peaceful rural Essex, a family-owned marina is taking steps to ensure the environment stays protected for years to come.

Fambridge Yacht Haven has installed two state-of-the-art interceptor tanks, designed to ensure oils, paint fragments and other materials are prevented from re-entering the river when boats are lifted ashore. The new system, called the ‘Morclean Reclaim System’ and housed in an ‘Environmental Wash Centre’ alongside the slipway, collects and cleans the water used when washing boats, making it available for further use, thus reducing water wastage.

Furthermore, following a partnership with a new waste provider, the marina now also boasts that zero site waste ends up in landfill.

Danyal Adams, Marina Manager, said: “As custodians, we are responsible for maintaining and preserving our marinas, ensuring our coastal areas are future-proofed for generations to come. We have listened to what our customers and the marine industry are saying about making marina operations more sustainable, so we are delighted to become the first marina on the East Coast to utilise this state-of-the-art system.”

Located on the scenic River Crouch less than an hour from central London, Fambridge Yacht Haven is home to more than 400 boats spread across the marina and swinging moorings. Recently reopened, Fambridge Yacht Haven is blessed by one of the best destination pubs in the area. The 400-year-old Ferry Boat Inn recently underwent a major refurbishment, delicately expanded while keeping the essence of a classic country pub.

It is not hard to see why this marina is commonly referred to as ‘the jewel of the River Crouch’.
