Isle of Wight-based disabled sailor and adventurer, Natasha Lambert BEM, has set her sights on another ocean voyage and plans to cross the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Grenada in November, raising money for charity.
Born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which affects the control of all her muscles and her speech, Natasha sails using the Sip-Puff system designed by her father, Gary, allowing her to control the boat through her breath.
In 2020, Natasha completed one transatlantic sailing endeavour, but it was marred by COVID restrictions. Then, a planned crossing in November 2025 was postponed at last minute when Natasha’s mother, Amanda, fell seriously ill. Tragically, Amanda lost her battle with cancer suddenly in February 2026, but it was one of her final wishes that her two daughters and husband continue exploring and showing the world just what is possible.
The expedition crew will depart Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, on 8th November 2026, as part of an organised rally, and sail 850 nautical miles to São Vicente, Cape Verde. They will take time to explore the island, as well as restock provisions, before heading out for the 2,150-nautical-mile sail to the Caribbean, with their finish line in Grenada.
Natasha will be skippering a crew of six – including her father, Gary, and sister, Rachel – aboard her 46ft Nautitech catamaran, Blown Away. The total journey will be approximately 3,000 nautical miles of open ocean, adventure, and emotions.
But that’s not all! Natasha says: “The Atlantic is just the beginning. Once we get to the Caribbean, I will be able to head towards the Pacific, which is very exciting!”
Natasha’s ambitions are inspiring enough but, via a JustGiving page, she is also aiming to raise an incredible £30,000 for three charities: the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust (EMCT), the RNLI, and Calvert Lakes.
Natasha’s exceptional determination to show the world what is possible is an inspiration to all. She may not be able to cross a room herself, but she can cross oceans. Her motto is to never let anything stop her and to always strive for more.
