RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show – talks and speakers announced

Bringing some warmth to the depth of February, on -the-water fans won’t want to miss the 2022 RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show (26 – 27 February) presented by Suzuki, which is heading to Farnborough International for the first time this February.

Alongside the much-loved dinghy sailing features, this year the show is expanding to also showcase windsurfing, wingsurfing & foiling, paddleboarding and more!

Over the years the show has hosted some of the greatest names in the industry and 2022 is no exception with world- class speakers, coaches and medalists offering expert advice on the Suzuki Main Stage, Knowledge Zone and new for 2022 the Watersports Stage.

Hannah Diamond is back to present the 2022 show along with instructor and presenter Lee Timothy and windsurfing legend Peter Hart. Here’s what’s on offer…

On the Suzuki Main Stage

Kicking off the talks, British Sailing Team Meteorologist, Simon Rowell will be sharing his expertise and essential top tips for forecasting afloat whether you’re sailor, windsurfer or paddler (11:00 Weather forecasting afloat).

Next up we’ll hear insights from some of the fastest sailors in the world including gold medalists Dylan Fletcher and Eilidh McIntyre plus sailors from SailGP. Stay updated on upcoming events, classes, technology, and ambitions for 2022 (Close to the action, 11:45).

Fans of paddleboarding won’t want to miss The Long Paddle (14:15) with Brendon Prince. Brendon paddled his way into record books in 2021 after completing his circumnavigation of Mainland Britain and will be revealing the highs and lows of the world’s longest SUP journey which raised funds and awareness for on the water safety.

Knowledge Zone

Fancy taking a masterclass with some of the UK’s top crews? Eilidh McIntyre (Saturday) and Anna Burnett (Sunday) are joined by the Ian Walker and others to share their top tips and advice for successful crewing (Crewing Masterclass, 12:45)

Meanwhile good communication at the start line is essential to achieve the perfect race start. British Sailing Team coach Johnny McGovern will be giving his advice to help you to get ahead. (Start line communication, 12:00)

If you’re planning more on water-adventures this year you’ll want to watch RS’s Jake Elsbury who is covering everything from launching to anchoring to make your next cruising trip plain sailing. (Tips for adventurers, 15:00)

Watersports stage

Brand new for 2022 is the Watersports Stage. Wingsurfing, and the more advanced wingfoiling, are the latest watersports crazes to hit our waters and foiling instructor James Hardy is sharing all the information you need to get started and to take flight. (All about winging 14:00).

Get started in windsurfing with Peter Hart and RYA Onboard’s Hannah Cockle for clothing and kit recommendations, rigging advice and techniques (The ultimate beginners guide to windsurfing, 13:00).

From entry level kit to staying safe on the water, beginners can learn the foiling fundamentals at midday with James Hardy (All about windfoiling- let’s take flight, 12:00) whilst those looking to progress can have their burning questions answered on everything from flight control to fully foiling jibes (Windfoiling ask the expert, 12:30).

You can also become a paddleboard pro with expert advice with Brendon Prince including essential kit tips and techniques for paddling in different conditions and locations (Paddleboarding top tips, 15;30).

Don’t miss it

The RYA Dinghy and Watersports Show will host over 100 exhibitors including class associations, boat builders, holiday companies and some of the biggest names in marine retail. Exhibitors signed up so far include RS Sailing, Rooster, Musto, Harken and the RNLI.
