Mayflower Marina

Mayflower Marina Plymouth has announced the continued growth of Horizons Plymouth and its partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF), marked by an expanded new facility at the marina and the launch of the innovative YouBoat Go chandlery concept.

Founded to help young people build life experience, gain confidence, and develop new skills through sailing and watersports, Horizons Plymouth has become an important part of the city’s community and maritime landscape. The expanded base will allow the organisation to broaden opportunities for young people and local communities to access sailing and watersports, while strengthening pathways into education, wellbeing, volunteering, and marine careers.

Operating from new offices, training rooms, and activity spaces at the marina, Horizons Plymouth will continue to deliver under its established local identity while benefiting from the wider support, programmes, and network of the Andrew Simpson Foundation.

As part of the development, Mayflower Marina and Horizons Plymouth have also partnered with marine retailer YouBoat to introduce YouBoat Go — a new compact chandlery designed specifically for marina environments.

YouBoat Go provides convenient access to essential boating products and consumables onsite, while also connecting customers to YouBoat’s wider online catalogue for rapid delivery of additional items. Get what you need now, order what you want to arrive in a few days. This concept perfectly blends onsite convenience with the wider offering of online shopping. Most crucially it puts real people in the middle of transactions to offer advice and a point of contact.

“Horizons Plymouth has already made a tremendous difference to many young people and families across the city,” said Charles Bush, Marina Manager at Mayflower Marina Plymouth. “This new facility creates the opportunity to grow that impact significantly and welcome even more people into sailing and watersports. The partnership with the Andrew Simpson Foundation brings additional expertise and opportunities, while YouBoat Go enhances the overall experience and service offering at the marina.”

“Over the last two years, we’ve seen the incredible work Horizons Plymouth has been delivering locally and the difference it makes within the community,” said Rob Clark, Chief Operations Officer of the Andrew Simpson Foundation. “This expanded facility gives us the opportunity to build on that success together — helping more young people gain confidence, develop life skills, and access opportunities through time on the water.”

“YouBoat Go is built around convenience, accessibility, and supporting marina communities,” added Richard Besse of YouBoat. “We’re delighted to launch the concept at Mayflower Marina as part of such a positive and community-focused development.”

The expansion reflects a shared long-term commitment to helping more people access the water, build confidence and skills, and create brighter futures through sailing and watersports, while strengthening Plymouth’s maritime community
