Cumbria Tourism’s Personality of the Year Award

Tracy Hodgson, Director of the Ruskin Museum in Coniston, has been awarded Cumbria Tourism’s Personality of the year award for her dedication and long-running efforts to secure the return of Donald Campbell’s Bluebird K7 to Coniston.

The Bernard Gooch award is awarded annually to a personality that has promoted tourism at the highest level, and on this occasion recognised Tracy’s continued work to preserve and promote Cumbria’s rich heritage.

Tracy, who has worked tirelessly at the Ruskin Museum over recent years to get Bluebird K7 into the museum wing for which it was built, and created a true visitor experience said: “It is a great privilege to receive this prestigious award.”

She added: I would like to thank the judging panel, but also my colleagues, The Trustees and all those who have supported the Ruskin Museum. Bluebird K7 continues to be a big draw, attracting visitors to Coniston from all over the world. I would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the volunteers of the Bluebird Project because without their dedication over the years we wouldn’t have a boat to display. As many people are aware, we intend to run K7 on Coniston Water next year, and this activity will again put Cumbria on the global map.”

Gill Haigh, Managing Director of Cumbria Tourism, said: “It was a truly fantastic evening, filled with pride, celebration and a genuine sense of togetherness. Every finalist and winner represents the very best of Cumbria’s world-renowned visitor economy, and every single person involved should feel incredibly proud.”

She added: “These awards are about far more than trophies, they’re about recognising the hard work, determination and passion that makes our county such a special place. Our tourism and hospitality industry plays a vital role in the life of Cumbria – supporting local communities, creating jobs, driving investment, and ensuring visitors return year after year.”

Gill said: “The Cumbria Tourism Awards continue to highlight businesses and individuals driving forward innovation, excellence and resilience – qualities that are vital to the future of Cumbria’s £4.6 billion tourism industry. It’s wonderful to see so many talented individuals and businesses celebrated tonight, and I hope they all take away not only their awards but a huge sense of pride in their achievements.”
