Battle of Britain’s 85th Anniversary Commemorated with Rare Boat Trip

To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Portsmouth Historic Quarter is inviting the public to Boathouse 4 this weekend to step aboard the historic High-Speed Launch 102 – the last of her kind still operational and afloat, and a type of vessel that played a critical role in rescuing downed RAF pilots during the battle.

The anniversary of the Battle of Britain marks a pivotal moment in World War II where the British RAF successfully defended their skies from the Luftwaffe (German air force) from July to September of 1940, following the fall of France. The RAF’s victory was crucial for Great Britain’s survival and continuation in the war, which resulted in Nazi Germany’s eventual defeat. Crews of HSL risked their lives by charging through the waves to bring the pilots back to shore.

Tickets for this poignant 45-minute experience cost £65pp, and trips depart from Boathouse 4 and run at 11:00am and 1:00pm on each day this weekend. Entry to Boathouse 4 is free for all this weekend.
