The Honda Marine Cup fishing tournament will make a much-anticipated return to the renowned Gooimeer lake at Jachthaven Naarden on 19 September.
Featuring 100 boats, the Netherlands event is set to be the biggest in its history, welcoming tournament anglers and the wider Honda community for a day of competition and activities celebrating fishing, boating and outboard technology.
The Honda Marine Cup is a unique sport fishing initiative for Honda-powered boats which aims to strengthen engagement with regional customers and partners.
The Benelux event has seen rapid growth in popularity, from 24 boats taking part at the inaugural cup in 2019 at de Nieuwe Meer, Amsterdam, to 96 boats launching in 2024. While the 2025 competition had to be cancelled due to the weather, the organisers are excited to host the community again, setting up a large dedicated tent at the beautiful marina setting.
Michel Oostdijk, Sales Area Manager Marine (Honda Marine Benelux), has been involved in organising the Honda Marine Cup since the first event.
He said: “The inspiration behind the Honda Marine Cup was to create a close-knit Honda community for our thriving sport fishing sector, bringing together people with a shared passion. With the support of Daan Verbruggen and Frank van Vliet, two well-known faces in the angling industry, and myself, the event grew very fast, with more tournament anglers interested every successive year. Participants consistently say that, of all the events they attend, the Honda Marine Cup is their favourite, mainly due to the friendly, informal competition and welcoming atmosphere, with everything arranged for them on-site.”
Outboard specialist Honda Marine Europe has built on the longstanding success of the original event in the Netherlands by hosting the second Italy edition of the Honda Marine Cup earlier this year.
While the ‘catch-and-release’ fishing competition takes centre stage, the Honda Marine Cup aims to provide a relaxed setting for everyone to enjoy a range of on-water and on-shore activities, with the emphasis on a friendly, family atmosphere. Attendees and fishing crews can also learn about the latest engine technology innovations and benefit from tips and advice from Honda ambassadors and representatives.
