UK Sailing Academy (UKSA) has launched its 2025 Impact Report, showcasing a landmark year in transforming lives through the power of the sea.
The most compelling highlight: over £1.48 million in bursary funding was awarded to young people facing financial hardship, empowering 31% of all participants to access UKSA’s life-changing programmes by removing financial barriers to inspirational experiences on the water and opportunities for rewarding careers at in the maritime industry.
“The support of UKSA meant everything to me, without it I wouldn’t have been able to follow my dreams,” says Christopher Fredrick, now working as a Deckhand on a Superyacht. His story is one of many illustrating how financial access is transforming potential into opportunity, and with the maritime industry expecting a projected global shortfall of 90,000 seafarers by 2026, UKSA is pleased to be playing a pivotal role in building a more diverse and resilient workforce
UKSA are also pleased to celebrate:
- 4842 school-aged pupils welcomed for inspirational water-based learning
- 94% of Superyacht Cadets securing employment within 12 months of graduation
- 1637 MCA courses delivered, with a 96% course pass rate
- 747 individuals supported through 1282 welfare sessions
Catherine Dixon, UKSA’S CEO, recognised the important contributions that enabled these achievements: “As I step into the role of CEO at UKSA, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of our funders, partners, and dedicated staff. This Impact Report is a testament to their collective commitment to transforming young lives through maritime training and outdoor learning. Together, we are empowering the next generation to achieve their full potential. I am looking forward to leading UKSA into the future, ensuring we continue to inspire the next generation of maritime professionals.”
Looking ahead UKSA is excited to be investing in new facilities and developing targeted outreach programmes to ensure even more young people benefit from the opportunities of maritime careers, regardless of their background.
