Performance Marine Group to reveal carbon fibre dinghy inspired by record-breaking powerboat innovation at SIBS

Performance Marine Group (PMG) will unveil a world debut of the Rascal, its latest innovation at the Southampton International Boat Show this September. The Rascal, a first of its kind carbon fibre dinghy from its specialist division Performance Sailcraft, promises to set a new benchmark in speed, control, and endurance.

“What makes the Rascal truly unique is its DNA”, said PMG Chairman Nick Ogden. “Drawing directly from the innovation and engineering excellence of our Powercraft division, the Rascal benefits from insights gained through the development of Thunder Child II – our world-record-holding endurance powerboat. This cross-division collaboration has resulted in a sailing dinghy that applies advanced materials, hydrodynamic efficiencies, and structural design principles typically reserved for offshore endurance vessels.”

Crafted for high-performance sailors who demand excellence, the Rascal has been precision-engineered to excel under pressure and deliver an unmatched sailing experience. Its lightweight carbon construction and aerodynamic profile reflect PMG’s mission to push boundaries and evolve the future of marine sport.

Visitors to the Southampton International Boat Show will be the first to witness the Rascal in person. Exclusive previews and discussions with the PMG team will be available at the Performance Marine Group stand. PMG Chairman Nick Ogden will officially tell all about the market-first innovation during the Rascal launch talk on the Boating Academy Stage from 12:25 to 12:50 on the first day of the show, Friday 19 September. This will be followed by an official unveiling for a first look at the Rascal at 1pm, on the Rascal stand just right of the Boating Academy Stage, stand A042.

Following talks around the Rascal and endurance sailing hosted by Nick will take place on The Boating Academy Stage on Thursday 25 September from 12:25 to 12:50 and Saturday 20 September from 3:25 to 3:50.

Nick adds: “The Rascal is not just another dinghy. It is a high-performance statement born from world-record pedigree and built for those who race to win.”
