With the school summer holidays around the corner, this July 26 – 27, Portsmouth Historic Quarter open their boathouse for Pontoon Open Weekend and invite the public to explore their operational historic vessels, including the iconic Landing Craft F8, which is still wrapped in her pride colours to mark the 25th anniversary of the “gay ban” being lifted in the British armed forces.
The boat rides are a perfect activity for spending a summer’s day with the family. Landing Craft F8, will be running 20-minute boat trips around the harbour, and visitors can expect to explore Portsmouth and the dockyard as well as learning about the city’s military history from passionate and knowledgeable volunteers. The impressive HSL 102 and the MGB 81 are also available for hour long boat trip and voyage through British military and naval history.
Not only are these three vessels available to ride, but also to charter, for an even more unforgettable summer holiday experience with the family. The boats are available for a maximum of a 4-hour charter with and hour for lunch in the sun aboard the vessel.
See here for more information about chartering the boats. Tickets for a boat trip on F8 are £10 per person or £30 for a group of four. Tickets for HSL 102 are £100 per person and MGB 81 boat rides are £130 per person. Spaces are limited to up to 10 people per trip and can be booked in advance via email boatbookings@portsmouthhq.org or by calling 023 9289 3331.
