With just two months remaining until the inaugural World Sailing Day – 28 May, momentum is building across the global sailing and yachting community as clubs, marinas, businesses, and maritime organisations prepare to take part in what is set to become a new annual fixture for the global sailing community.
Created as a single, coordinated global moment, World Sailing Day establishes a fixed date each year when the world comes together to celebrate, promote, and experience sailing in all its forms. From yacht clubs and regattas to marina activations, open days, waterfront events and industry-led initiatives, participation is already spanning multiple countries and sectors, reflecting the breadth and diversity of sailing worldwide.
A New Global Moment for Sailing
World Sailing Day has been developed to align activity on a single date; creating a powerful collective signal for sailing, amplifying visibility, increasing participation and providing a clear focal point for engagement. The concept is simple: many local activations, one global moment. With over 1.2 billion people living within 10 kilometres of the coast globally, the opportunity to introduce new audiences to sailing and reconnect existing ones remains significant.
Industry-Wide Participation
World Sailing Day is designed as an open and inclusive platform, bringing together all segments of sailing, including:
• Yacht clubs and sailing schools
• Marinas and ports
• Boat builders, brokers, and marine brands
• Charter companies and tourism operators
• Maritime museums and cultural institutions
• Youth organisations, including Sea Scouts and Sea Cadets
• Media, hospitality, and waterfront businesses Activities on or around 28 May may range from introductory sailing experiences and regattas to social events, exhibitions, and commercial activations.
Night Lights Spectacle
All vessel owners, clubs and marinas are encouraged to light-up vessels and buildings around the marinas and ports, 30 minutes after Sunset and create a sailing spectacle, and post online and to encourage the public to take part.
Commercial and Community Opportunity
Positioned at the start of the Northern Hemisphere sailing season, World Sailing Day provides a natural activation point for the industry.
Building a Long-Term Industry Asset
World Sailing Day is intended to grow into an annual tradition establishing long-term value through consistency, visibility, and cumulative participation. Over time, the initiative aims to create a recurring “season opener” for sailing, with the potential to develop broader cultural and commercial significance similar to other globally recognised dates.
Call to Participate
Organisations, businesses, and individuals are invited to take part in World Sailing Day -28 May by confirming their participation and planning local activations. Participation is intentionally flexible, allowing each organisation to engage in a way that reflects its own identity and community and further local Ambassadors are invited to join the organisation.
