In honour of World Environment Day 2025, D-Marin reflects on a year of significant progress in environmental performance across its selection of marinas in the Mediterranean and Gulf regions. Through consistent investment, innovation and collaboration, D-Marin is advancing sustainability at every level of its operations, setting a new benchmark for responsible marine hospitality and shaping the future of environmentally conscious yachting.
D-Marin has taken significant steps to minimise its environmental impact, investing in clean energy infrastructure, waste reduction technologies, and cross-sector partnerships that extend its positive influence well beyond its marinas. In 2024, more than 15 tonnes of solid waste were managed across its marinas, with 30% successfully recycled. Using advanced DPOL2 and Jellyfishbot systems, seabed and surface clean-ups removed over five tonnes of marine debris, with activities carried out in Greece, Croatia, the UAE and France.
In parallel, D-Marin has expanded the use of smart pedestal systems, allowing for more efficient water and energy use at berth. The company now produces 4.9 GWh of solar energy annually from installations in Turkey and Croatia, enough to power more than 1,345 homes, while an additional 6.5 GWh in ‘Guarantees of Origin’ have been purchased to further reduce environmental footprint.
A significant milestone this year was D-Marin’s formal commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By pledging a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, joining a global community of responsible businesses dedicated to aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
“Environmental responsibility is more than an operational objective, it is a defining principle of how we shape the future of yachting,” said Andrea De Santis, COO of D-Marin. “Through careful investment, collaboration, and long-term thinking, we are creating marinas that not only meet the highest standards of service but also contribute meaningfully to the protection of our seas.”
Over the past year, D-Marin’s efforts have been recognised through several prestigious certifications and awards:
- A Silver Medal from EcoVadis, placing the company among the top 6% of leisure industry businesses globally for sustainability performance.
- The Green Apple Environment Award, recognising excellence in environmental practice.
- Group-wide ISO 14001 certification, recently extended to include Punta Faro Marina.
- Ongoing Blue Flag certification at all Mediterranean marinas (with Malta and Palma progressing toward qualification), demonstrating excellence in water quality, safety, and environmental education.
D-Marin’s approach to sustainability is not limited to infrastructure or certification, it is equally focused on awareness and education. In collaboration with organisations such as WWF France, HELMEPA, TURMEPA and Green Sail, D-Marin continues to engage local communities through school visits, marina clean-ups, and environmental awareness events. At Camille Rayon, recent initiatives have brought children and guests together to explore marine protection in action. The company’s membership in the United Nations Global Compact and CSR Hellas further reinforces its commitment to international principles of environmental care, corporate responsibility, and transparent governance.
