Newquay’s newly unveiled coastal residence

Perched high on a rugged headland, The Lookout stands at the very edge of the Atlantic. In front of it there is nothing but open ocean, all the way to the horizon. It feels a world away from everyday life, yet Newquay’s lively town centre, its yoga and coffee culture, its picturesque harbour and Fistral, its famous surf beach, are only a short stroll away.

The Lookout at The Atlantic Hotel launched in summer 2026 and has one of the most dramatic views anywhere on the British coast. It is the first completed project since The Atlantic joined The Cornwall Hotel Collection and offers a glimpse of the group’s long-term vision for one of Cornwall’s most iconic seaside hotels. This is far more than a self-catering residence. Spread generously across two floors, it is a jaw-dropping clifftop abode that sleeps up to eight. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space, putting the ocean at the centre of everything.

When winter storms sweep in off the ocean, The Lookout is one of the most thrilling places in Britain to watch nature at full strength with waves forming far out in the Atlantic rising into towering swells. Inside, it’s a different world. Guests can feel the storm’s energy from the warmth of the sofa, with nothing between them and the sea but glass. This is storm-watching at its most dramatic – the kind of raw, elemental spectacle that makes you feel very small and very alive at the same time.

Then the storm passes, and the Atlantic shows its other face. Low winter sun makes the bay glitter like scattered diamonds. Long, unhurried days slip by watching the light change, with nothing to do but gaze at the sea. After dark, a full moon lays a shimmering path across the water. Whether the sea is wild or calm, these views are unparalleled.

Designed in collaboration with a local interior designer, it introduces a new level of coastal sophistication, blending contemporary design with a touch of Art Deco glamour. The interiors balance statement styling with a relaxed, residential feel, pairing soft creams, warm neutrals and calming ocean hues with rich terracotta accents, plush upholstery and natural textures.

Spanning two extensive floors, the apartment’s light-filled, open-plan interiors have been thoughtfully designed to make the most of its spectacular clifftop position. Outside, a gargantuan private balcony and terrace look out over the bay.

The Lookout offers the best of both worlds. Guests can wander across to The Atlantic Hotel for breakfast, a leisurely lunch or a nightcap, while complimentary access to the hotel’s indoor leisure facilities, including its heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, adds another welcome dimension to the stay.

Newquay has developed its own natural, effortlessly cool culture and is now one of the UK’s most exciting year-round coastal destinations. Its creative spirit reaches well beyond the surf. There’s a growing collection of independent restaurants, cafés, galleries and wellness experiences, plus a lively cultural scene that includes the town’s Street Art Trail. For those who prefer a slower pace, there are independent shops to browse and outstanding local food to enjoy.

Out of season, the beaches are wide and empty, the skies are huge and the Atlantic is at its most alive. Winter swimmers brave the waves, then warm up in beachside saunas. Surfers paddle out at sunrise. Walkers lean into the wind on the clifftop paths and come home with glowing cheeks. It’s the kind of break that blows away the cobwebs and sends you home with a clearer head.

At the end of each day, The Lookout is the perfect refuge. Whether it’s an October half-term adventure, a grown-up gathering with friends, a multigenerational celebration or a restorative winter break, The Lookout invites guests to feel the full power of the Atlantic in every season.
