Following Yamaha’s acquisition of Torqeedo early this year, the marine technology leader has reaffirmed its partnership with Water Witch, which now commissions both Torqeedo electric systems and Yamaha Outboards across its fleet, making the waterways maintenance solutions provider a leading account for the premium marine solutions specialist.
Since 1963, Liverpool-based Water Witch has been providing cost-effective and efficient boating solutions that help to clean up the marine environment. Working predominantly inland to prevent waste from reaching the world’s oceans, Water Witch partners with waterway management companies, port authorities, tourist resorts, not-for-profit organisations and environmental agencies to collect debris, mainly non-degradable plastics, from rivers, marinas, harbours and more.
From customisable trash skimmers and barges to dredgers and workboats, Water Witch’s multi-purpose crafts have been deployed throughout Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and the Americas – collecting more than 2.7 million tonnes of debris since the company’s inception.
For many years Water Witch has partnered with Yamaha to equip its Trash Skimmer vessels with high-thrust Outboards, applauding the marine manufacturer for its high-quality, reliable and long-lasting solutions. However, it was 2020, when Water Witch announced its partnership with now Yamaha-owned Torqeedo, creating an efficient electric power package for quiet, emission-free operations.
As a result, its acclaimed Versi-Cat aluminium workboat is now offered with fully electric Torqeedo propulsion. Following this, Water Witch also supports an electric retrofit package for its partners’ existing combustion-powered Versi-Cat models.
With Yamaha having recently acquired Torqeedo, Water Witch is now looking forward to benefiting from the brands’ shared technological expertise and an even more streamlined customer support system.
Jackie Caddick, Director at Water Witch, said: “We’ve always trusted Yamaha for dependable Outboards and have been equally impressed with Torqeedo’s electric technology. Bringing both brands together under one roof is a big win, combining leading innovation with improved service and support. It’s an exciting time, and we’re looking forward to exploring even more electrified options as we expand our work around the world.”
