Rhea Concept Open 23
Friday, 24 February 2012 00:00

Rheaopen23North Sea Maritime exhibited the new Rhea Concept Open 23 at last month's London International Boatshow. This new range of classically styled, open sportsboat has a central console and is powered by an outboard engine.

As usual with a Rhea, safety is an important feature and this model doesn’t disappoint – it has a deep, ‘walkaround’ cockpit with guardrail and direct access to the sea. The forward seating area can be transformed into a sunbed and the aft cockpit has U shaped seating, the two at the sides fold up into the hull sides for storage. There’s room inside the console, accessed by a sliding door, to install a toilet and with a 12v point in one of the lockers it’s an ideal place for a portable fridge or coolbox.

North Sea Maritime’s director, Stephen Johnson said, “We are looking forward to testing this boat with clients – she is reputed to have a maximum speed of 40 knots with a 150hp outboard! Once again, Rhea have come up trumps – this is all the classic Rhea styling, attention to detail, safety and quality but in a more affordable package. Given the current economic circumstances Rhea have positioned themselves in the market with this boat and the Rhea Fishing 730 to make owning a Rhea more attainable and we are very excited to bring Rhea’s back to the UK boatshows.’

RS900 Skiff Being Tested
Tuesday, 17 January 2012 09:51

NewsJanSkiffTesting of the production-spec RS900, RS Sailing’s contender for selection as the future women’s Olympic skiff class, is underway.

The RS900 has been designed by the RS team of Alex Southon and Nick Peters together with Phil Morrison. It is designed not only with possible selection as a future Olympic class in mind, but also as a design that will stand the test of time and introduce skiff sailing to a new generation.

RS managing director, Martin Wadhams, said: “We began the process several years ago believing that the RS800 could be modified to become the women’s skiff, but quickly realised that although it was arguably the most suited of the then current contenders, it would never be perfect for Olympic women.”
