Drama at Coniston Speed Record Week

The 42nd Coniston Records Week had a rather dramatic and unwelcome start when Chris Loney blew the Ex Scott Gillman DAC hull over while attempting to break the Clubman’s Catamaran Unlimited record. At a speed of 148mph the boat did a 180 degree flip which caused the craft's engine to be left hanging by cables. During recovery of the boat a spark from the solenoid ignited the split fuel hose causing the boat to be engulfed in flames.

The drama took place on the lake where Donald Campbell died in Bluebird in 1967, but fortunately in this latest incident there were no injuries and the event continued once the debris had been cleared.
