A 19-foot boat with 250hp might seem excessive but there are some very distinct benefits to be had. Simon Everett reports.
I make no secret of the fact that I have always liked Campions. They produce a clean lined boat with friendly features that make sports boating easy and fun. But the new Campion Chase 600 is one of the line of high-performance boats, aimed at the sports boater who wants that extra bit of speed and style over the standard craft. Naturally then, the Chase models are built to take outboards of much higher power than boats of the same size from the rest of the range.

SB&RIB gets the exclusive first test of the flagship Yamarin 80 DC
The Yamaha F350 caused a major stir when it was unveiled. What it really needed was a boat that could handle the power. Alex Smith gets a sneak preview of the Yamarin 80 DC.
Our impeccably professional facilitator at Yamaha UK had made some calls. The wheels had been set in motion and, from an entirely unrelated press event, I was whisked away in a car with two other European journalists to the wilds of Finland for a sneak preview of a boat nobody in the UK had yet seen. It was to be a boat based on a line of sports cruisers with an outstanding dynamic pedigree, from a brand quickly gaining a committed fan base in the UK.

What is it that makes a so special? Mike Pullen is first in line to find out.
It isn’t every day you get an invitation to play with the Special Boat Service and their toys, so there was plenty of competition at SB HQ to bag this one. We drew straws to decide who would go and, naturally enough, mine was the longest, so I made my way to the Portsmouth Naval Base with my mind steeled, ready for an arduous time on the water at the hands of some serious boaters . . .
I was expecting men in black with muscles on top of muscles and chins the texture of granite.

If you can build a gunmetal rocket ship with 80-knot capability and offer it to the public, chances are you'll get some takers. Simon Everett tests the Goldfish 29.
Despite her evident class, the Goldfish 29 is an understated boat. She doesn't need any Ritzy razzamatazz to catch your eye, because the lines themselves are enough. Like the svelte girl in the little black number, the impact is all in the curves. Anything more showy would seem vulgar.
From the gunmetal gelcoat through the teak decks to the matt black Orca tubes, this boat oozes quality. But if the looks aren't brash enough for the street racer, the performance should be, because with a Limor V10 8.3-litre engine option and Bravo 1 drive, this is a genuine 80-knot surface missile...
